Jan 19, Los Angeles

We woke up in port at the World Cruise Center in San Pedro, south of downtown LA. The Port is also a major shipping center.

We were tied up right next to the Battleship USS Iowa

They had a real dog as a mascot.

And Vicky showed us around on the tour.

The battleships had really big guns

I got to sit in the Captain's chair and used the phone

Gages showing what the engines are doing and what direction we are going/

The Navy is able to communicate just with flags.  And I also learned that B was Bravo and Z was Zulu and together Bravo Zulu meant Job well Done/Congratulations.

I got to lay on one of their beds (bunks). They were stacked by three.

We got to walk through all the cooking areas

It takes a lot of food to feed a big crew!! Even just for one thing.

I also saw the laundry and the huge washers and dryers.

They also had these big iron presses.  I am glad they weren't working it could have flatten me out even more!

I was even able to touch a really big bell.

Back on the ship and waiting for the fuel barge to finish filling up our tanks, we had some chips and guacamole.

We saw a seal near the ship.

Since the fuel barge wasn't moving, one of our feathered friends stopped by.

Finally the tug came and hooked up to the fuel barge meaning it wouldn't be long before it was finished.

Finally the barge started to pull away.

And finally we were on our way out of the port and heading back out to the Pacific Ocean.

Next stop, Hawaii!!  Four sea days first.
