March 16: Dubai, UAE Day 1

Welcome To Dubai

Skyline as we come into port

Morning sun through the Dubai skyline

We started our visit with a taxi ride to The Palms Jumeirah. A man made palm shaped island that has The Atlantis hotel as its signature site. This was where the 2020 New Year's Eve KISS concert was held.

New Atlantis 2 hotel that looks like it is made with building blocks

The Atlantis has a huge aquarium

Even the Kleenex in the cab was fancy looking

After Atlantis, we walked around the port area for awhile

At the butterfly place, Rob's hat was a favorite landing site. Today it was his shoes!

There was a small food building (size of a food truck) right near the terminal. We were excited to get some local food!!!  Well a Chicken Club sandwich with French Fries was the most exotic thing on the menu!  Actually they had a lot of unique smoothies that was their most exotic menu item. But was really good.

We then headed back to the ship to get out of the heat, rest and change for our evening excursion

Our evening trip was a 4 wheel drive safari. We had a motorcade of white SUVs going through town

And about a half hour later, we were definitely out of the city with signs that we have never seen before. And then we saw camels near the road.

Had to drop the tire pressure from 35 to 15 psi

After the 4 wheel drive adventure, we stopped for views of the desert and then sunset

The desert

I think Toni loved being in the desert

Then we made it to our final destination and the first thing we saw was camels!

Proof that we did ride a camel

Buffet dinner, eaten on table about 2 feet tall while sitting on pillows

Of course we had to put air back into the tires before hitting the concrete.

This got us back to the ship around 10 and needed to be up at 5 to be ready for tomorrow's excursion
