March 17: Dubai Day 2

Day 2 in Dubai and a visit to the tallest building in the world

The Burh Khalifa, the tallest building in the world!
"Buoyed by the activity on offer here, you will then have a chance to get your adrenaline pumping with a visit to the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world at 2,680 feet. Here, you will take a high speed elevator to the observation deck on level 124, where floor-to-ceiling glass walls provide breathtaking panoramic views of the city, desert and ocean sprawled beneath. Not for the faint-hearted, it is an experience not to be missed."

A virtual glass floor looking at the ground, including with random cracks in the glass.

And there were more floors above the 124th

Certificate for getting to the top and what I thought was a gold bar but ended up being soap :-(

Photos, quotes, books of the sheik were everywhere.

Walking down from 126th to 124th floors

I  grew wings

At the Dubai Mall at Burj Khalifa
The mall had a big aquarium

Some nice cars in the parking garage.

Lego store had sneakers, a car and model of the building

More things at the Mall

Jumeirah Mosque, one of the most photographed sites in Dubai, and a splendid example of Middle Eastern architecture.

"...continue your drive along the palm tree-lined roads to the wonderful Mall of the Emirates, home to Ski Dubai, the first indoor ski resort in the Middle East. This extraordinary complex offers an amazing setting for year-round skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing."

McDonald's was in the food court.  But also some more regional food.

Our lunch

"You will then head to the stunning Burj Al Arab Hotel, which is built in the shape of a towering sail and surely a sight to remember. This magnificent structure, which sits on a man-made island, is the tallest all-suite hotel over water at 321 meter high, and simply oozes opulence, luxury and breathtaking beauty."

Back at the port and another view of the skyline

Back on the boat and heading out to see.  We got a better view of The Palms and Atlantis as we headed out to sea.

After we went out to sea, we made our way around the ship. They were decked out for St Patrick's day

The buffet had all kinds of St Patrick's displays

Our main band, Grace's Secrets brought one of the String Duo (the violinist) and one of the lounge singers to really have a fun Irish Set/

Before we retired for the evening, we looked out at the coast of Oman and and a road that went from the coast and headed up the mountain.

We had to get to sleep after the two days in Dubai because we will be in Muscat Oman tomorrow morning
